About
Better Chicken Australia

Our vision

We campaign to make life better for Australian chickens.

A staggering 750 million chickens are raised and slaughtered in Australia every year for meat. Meanwhile, our animal welfare standards lag well behind the rest of the world. That’s why we’ve come together to campaign for change.

Australians expect animals to be farmed to high animal welfare standards. It’s time for the chicken industry to step up and meet those standards.

The Open Wing Alliance & global collaboration

Logo of the Open Wing Alliance featuring a stylized chicken inside a circle with the organization name to the right.

Our operating organisations are proud members of the Open Wing Alliance.

Initiated by The Humane League, the Open Wing Alliance (OWA) is a global coalition of over 80 member organisations united in a common goal: to end the abuse of chickens worldwide.

We regularly collaborate with and learn from our fellow OWA members, particularly in Europe, where the Better Chicken Commitment (also known as the European Chicken Commitment) is a proven success.

With the support of powerful allies, we are dedicated to bringing higher animal welfare standards to Australia’s meat chickens.
